Restored 2021-2022. 105cm x 20cm x 49cm. Approximately 37kg. Fully restored sound mechanism and amplification system. Renovated pedal, wood base, legs, lid and front rail.
The Wurlitzer 200A is perhaps the most recognized electroacoustic Wurlitzer of all time.
The sound mechanism was fully restored and the instrument renovated with a new white lid, wood base, and custom legs. Within the restoration process it was found to be a unique piece since it was one of the very first 200A pianos produced. A transitional model in effect.
The original lid and wooden base where cosmetically damaged. Lid was thus painted white, maintaining a classy look for this historic piano, and the wooden base painted black.
After the keys were cleaned, polished and properly aligned, the piano damper section was thus re-assembled.
As seen in the image, the piano had many beaten and worn out hammer tips. These were all renovated using new hammer tips with the same original material consistency.
A new speaker and amplification system from vintage vibe was installed to replace the years of improvised electronics which held up the piano. The outcome is a much cleaner and powerful sound, loud enough to jam with a small band without compromising on the original wurlitzer sound.
The original damper mechanism was rusty, slow and dirty. It was renewed using a new set of grommets and restored carefully regulating each note.
The initial condition presented many challenges: beaten up hammer tips, non-original speakers and electronics as well as dead notes, worn out face plate and a rusty damper mechanism.
